A young girl's fancy turns to fashion...

The weather is cooling down & my thoughts are turning to scarves, knee-high boots & layers of tweedy fabric. After months of seeing far too many stretch-marked bare love handles, I am looking forward to a focus on clothes, rather than skin. I long to see the soothing charcoals, beiges, chocolates & fawns of fall fashion. My eyes are tired from the vibrant fuchsias & yellows of the summer.

Looks like the shabby boho has grown up a little & gotten a job: fashion is heading toward more urban, while still Victorian-inspired, cropped & fitted blazers with a few lacy ruffles & a pair of Chuck Taylors thrown in. Speaking of shoes, the last year has been a boon for the pedestrians among us. I can't walk my usual 30-60 minutes a day (not to mention the 8 hours of standing on concrete floors at work) in 4" heels. I applaud the return of flats!

Let's hope that the Japanese Birkenstock trend makes an impression over here too. Then I'll be fashionable as well as comfortable. I'll suffer for fashion to some extent, but I've been a Birkenstock devotee for a long time now. Seeing friends develop bunions before they're 30 (!) & having had some minor foot problems related to unsupportive footwear, I'm not willing to comprimise on the dogs...
